X-Ray Technologist Position

REPORTS TO: Department Lead
DEPARTMENT: X-RAY


OVERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:

The X-Ray Technologist is part of the patient care team at WOC. He/She is primarily responsible for the general function of the Radiology Department making sure quality x-rays are taken while offering compassionate care to our patients. The technologist works with patients, staff and other departments at WOC to ensure high quality care is provided and should be able to modify their work routine when needed.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages radiologic services in accordance with clinic, government and state standards.

  • Consistently comes to work on scheduled days and on time.

  • Shows compassion while at work and has a positive attitude.

  • Develops department goals and objectives.

  • Establishes, implements and follows radiologic policies and procedures and can make recommendations for improvement.

  • Maintains the quality of radiographs, procedures and services.

  • Trains/orients department personnel.

  • Informs fellow technologists if they are doing something incorrect in a tactful manner and reports major performance concerns to the practice administrator.

  • Reviews departmental performance and ensures compliance with state quality assurance, legal and other regulatory requirements.

  • Inspects equipment and materials, informs practice administrator of major equipment malfunctions.

  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.

  • Prepares patients for x-ray procedures and performs the x-rays while following established procedures for patient care and safety.

  • Uses a variety of radiation protection and shielding devices while using ALARA techniques.

  • Logs radiologic procedures completed and processes routine paperwork.

  • Files outside exams accordingly and keeps the film request up to date.

  • Stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies.

  • Attends required staff and educational meetings.

  • Maintains patient confidentiality.

  • Performs related work as required.

  • Keeps laundry clean and ready for patient use.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques related to radiology.

  • Knowledge of radiologic standards to offer superior patient care.

  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to perform x-ray exams.

  • Knowledge of radiology equipment and testing to evaluate/ monitor adequate provision of equipment.

  • Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergent situations.

  • Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.

  • Skill in providing guidance and instruction to fellow technologists.

  • Ability to evaluate utilization statistics and other data.

  • Knowledge of safety hazards common to radiology including equipment, body mechanics and patient movement.

  • Skill in properly positioning patients.

  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

  • Ability to apply written guidelines and standardized work practices.

  • Ability to communicate clearly.


EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL TRAINING:

  • Current ARRT certification

  • Current CPR training

  • Current required state licensing

  • Up to date continuing education


EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduation of accredited radiologic schooling program.

  • Must be able to use computers efficiently.

  • Fax/Copier

  • Multi-line telephone

  • Washer/dryer


Note: This position requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. The position also requires standing and walking for prolonged periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 300 pounds. It requires normal visual acuity and hearing. There is limited exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to the medical environment.
