Western Washington’s Sports Medicine Experts

Sports medicine and sports injury treatment have become important parts of our practice because Americans have become increasingly sports-minded. Athletic injuries, most of which affect the musculoskeletal system, have become increasingly common.

Orthopedics, as a specialty, focuses on surgical and nonsurgical management of these injuries with an emphasis on safe and rapid return to full function.

All of our orthopedists have broad, extensive training in caring for these injuries, some with special interest and extra training devoted to sports medicine.

What is Sports Medicine?

A branch of medicine focusing on physical fitness, prevention and treatment of injuries. Physicians that practice this type of medicine generally have an extensive training in musculoskeletal medicine since many injuries include damage to the tendons, ligaments, muscles, and bones.

Common Sports Related Injuries:

  • Sprains of the Ankle and Groin
  • Mild concussions and head injuries
  • Muscle strains
  • Shin splints.
  • Knee injuries including ACL tears and Patellofemoral syndrome (injury resulting from the repetitive movement of your kneecap against your thigh bone.)
  • Tennis elbow (epicondylitis)

Goals of Treatment:

  • Relieve pain
  • Regain strength
  • Future injury prevention
  • Help the patient return to their daily and recreational activities

Along with treating many different types of injuries, we also offer (ImPACT) concussion testing. To learn more or to set up an appointment with a physician at Washington Orthopaedic Center, contact us today.
