JOB TITLE: ASC Sterile Processing Technician
REPORTS TO: ASC Director
DEPARTMENT: ASC
Overall Purpose of Job:
Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Job Requirements:
- Autoclave preparation.
- Cleans, decontaminates, and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies, and equipment.
- Assembles, wraps, and sterilizes trays of instruments.
- Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
- Monitors biological and chemical wash solutions to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
- Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays, and medical equipment in a timely manner.
- Restocks, labels, and maintains inventory.
- Notifies purchasing of supplies that are needed.
- Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room, and equipment storage areas.
- Checks with operating room staff to verify all needed equipment for procedures is available and in working order.
- Initiates requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair, or replacement and removes defective equipment.
- Maintains a clean work area.
- Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, quality improvement, safety, and infection control standards.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of medical/surgical equipment and instruments.
- Knowledge of cleaning and processing surgical and medical supplies.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and appropriate precautions.
- Ability to maintain quality medical/surgical control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Strong communication skills.
Education, Qualifications, and Special Training:
- Certification in Sterile Processing.
- CPR certification.
Qualifications:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

- Task-oriented with strong critical thinking skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to review future surgical schedules to project equipment needs.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of Sterile Processing program preferred.
Experience:
- One year of sterile processing experience in a hospital or ASC setting.
- Orthopedic experience preferred.
Job Type & Pay:
- Full-time
- Pay: $25.00 – $34.00 per hour
- Expected Hours: 32 – 40 per week

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
This position requires a full range of body motion, including but not limited to:
- Handling and lifting equipment.
- Manual and finger dexterity.
- Eye-hand coordination.
- Performing heavy manual procedures as required.
- Standing and walking for prolonged periods.
- Reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive).
- Lifting/pushing/pulling over 50 lbs.
- Normal visual acuity and hearing required.
- Frequent exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, chemicals, fumes, noise, and other conditions common to clinic/hospital environments.
- Position involves working under stress in emergency situations or during irregular hours.
